Maj Gen Gbolahan Oyefesobi (Rtd) is a distinguished graduate of the Nigerian Defence Academy and was commissioned into the Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army in 1989. He is a holder of a BA (Honours) Degree in History from the Nigeria Defence Academy, an MSc degree in Political Science from Bayero University Kano, a Master of Philosophy in Strategy and Development Studies from the Bangladesh University of Professionals and an honorary Dr of Letters from Irsbaccom University, Republic of Benin. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), a Fellow of the International Institute of Professional Security, a member of the Royal United Services Institute UK and a Member Nigerian Institute for International Affairs. He has also attended many courses, which include the Regimental Intelligence and Security Officers Course, Special Warfare Course, National Defence College and Enhancing Security-Justice Coordination to Counter Transnational Organized Crime Academic Program at the National Defence University Washington, US amongst others.
The General has served in various capacities. Prominent amongst these are: Operations and Intelligence Officer Nigerian Battalion 21, OPERATION LIBERTY in Liberia 1994-1997, Directing Staff at the prestigious Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) 2005-2007; Commanding Officer, 6 Battalion; Chief Instructor, Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency Centre; Director, Department of Land Warfare, AFCSC; and Defence Adviser, Nigeria High Commission, London, where he interfaced regularly with the Nigerian representative at the IMO. He was also the pioneer Commander of the Nigerian Army Special Forces Corps and Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence at the Defence Intelligence Agency. The General is a recipient of many Awards and Medals which include Passed Staff Course Dagger (PSC), Distinguished Service Star (DSS), General Service Star (GSS) and ECOMOG Medal, amongst others. He is further a proud recipient of the Chief of Army Staff Commendation award as Commanding Officer 6 Battalion and the President Commander-in-Chief Commendation as the Defence Adviser, London. One of his works titled ‘Combating Terrorism and National Security: Implications and Challenges for Nigeria’ was published in the Journal of the National Defence College, Bangladesh.
