In August 2025, Dakar hosted one of the most inclusive and ambitious maritime workshops Africa has seen to date. Over three days, the Dakar Workshop brought together more than 100 delegates from 25 African IMO Member States, as well as regional organisations, private sector representatives, and international partners.
Maritime experts, policymakers, and institutional leaders from across the African continent gathered to engage in high-level panel discussions on policy-related topics and capacity-building needs for a Just and Equitable Energy Transition across Africa’s marine and blue economy sector. Hosted by the Government of Senegal in collaboration with the Maritime Organisation for West and Central Africa (MOWCA), the Professional African Technical Network and Advisory Initiative (PATNA), the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), UCL Energy Institute, and other key regional maritime institutions.
